Maine Beer Tours | Bike and Brews Tour
Join us for an afternoon of biking, discovery, and craft beer on our brand new Bike and Brews tour in collaboration with our bicycle-loving friends at Summer Feet Cycling.
Portland is a great city for biking, and for craft alcohol. And with so many craft breweries and other producers located near safe biking paths, Maine Beer Tours has joined forces with Summer Feet Cycling to present Bike and Brews tours in Portland this season!
For nearly 20 years, Summer Feet Cycling has been offering bicycle-based vacations in some of the most beautiful places on earth. They started right here in Maine, and offer the best and broadest selection of tours in the state.
One of their half-day tours in Portland is called Bike and Brews, and after watching the popularity of this tour for the past few years we now work on this together to make it better than ever!
Here is how the Bike and Brews tour works: every day (except for Sunday) the tour gathers at 3:00 pm outside Ocean Gateway – home of the Visitor Information Center at 14 Ocean Gateway Pier (just off Commercial Street) in Downtown Portland.
Tickets are pre-purchased through Summer Feet and are only $69.00 per person all-inclusive. Private tours for groups are available upon request and could be held at other days and times if needed, just ask!
You do not have to be an avid cyclist to take this tour. In fact, the routes are designed for easy group biking, not many hills (if any at all), and will be moving at a leisurely pace.
You don’t even need to bring your own bike! One of the best parts of this tour is the ticket includes a bicycle fitted for you and a helmet provided by the folks at Summer Feet.
After meeting our guide, checking out our bikes, and a brief safety talk, it will be time to hop on the bikes and pedal our way as a group towards the first brewery.
The bicycle-based tour guides will ride along with the group to each location, where a selection of craft beer (and other alcohol) samples that are included in the ticket price will be waiting for us.
There are two different route lengths and times based on particular days of the week.
Our three-mile routes mostly feature biking on mixed-use paths where no vehicles are allowed. Our longer ten-mile routes include some road biking along with mixed-use paths and trails.
And both routes feature considerable biking along the ocean with scenic views out to many islands in Casco Bay.
Along the way, we will make a few stops to learn about Portland’s rich history from the Rum Riots to Prohibition.
And at each stop, we will learn a little bit about each company, meet the people responsible for delivering quality craft alcohol, and sample their various products.
Light snacks and water will be available for each rider. And if you are worried about being in a large peleton, these tours are limited to 13 bikers to guarantee personal attention.
This tour will operate in “light to moderate” rain and shine, so plan accordingly. But if the weather drastically will affect our tour, tickets are fully refundable in the event of a necessary weather cancellation.
After biking our way to each of our stops, together we will head back to the starting point with a better understanding of Portland’s thirst for outstanding craft beer and other alcohol.
See Portland and it’s craft alcohol industry in a whole new way by taking our new Bike and Brews tour!
